Domaine de la Combe in the Loire Valley: let's talk about it
Pierre-Henri Gadais, can you introduce your vineyard?
« The young domaine de la Combe has been create in 2018. The vineyard is in conversion to organic and will be certified in 2021.Located between the 2 rivers of Sèvre et Maine, in Saint-Fiacre, The winery is located in the “lieux dit » La Pétière. Geologically the topography is organised as what we call a « Combe » kind of valley... So some of the vines are at the climax of the village, some other have a northern exposure whereas the rest of the vines have a southern exposure. In addition to the diversity of exposure, the 3 types of soils are in the domaine, we find some micaschisst, gneiss and orthogneiss. As the 14,5ha are in one block, this permit to avoid the chemical contaminations of the neighboors. Today, I am the only wine grower owning this terroir; it is a monopoly. In addition to this, « La Pétière » used to be a pre-historical village.
With a total of 14,5 hectares, planted 100% with Melon de Bourgogne, the estate is one of the last to produce only Muscadet. I have always believed in our grape variety and in our traditions. The goal for me was to create a real identity for this winery, in the best respect of Terroir, tradition and quality. Today, the wines are made with limited manipulations, allwines are fermented with wild yeast, fermented without sulfites and only receive a hint of sulfites before the aging. The subterreans tanks permit to work by gravity and ensure a stable and natural temperature control of 14°c for the entire aging. The wines are ages from 3 to 26 months, depends on the cuvées, and are fined in decreasing moon before bottling, all wines are no filtered.»
You will be soon attending the Tastin’France Brussels. What is your message to wine lovers ?
"The Renaissance of the great Muscadet wines !"
